3 Tips to Increase your Chances of Getting into the Finals of Singapore Blog Awards

Honestly speaking, I have not heard of the Singapore Blog Awards until April 2014, when I came across Grace Tan (workingwithgrace.wordpress.com) blogging course, looking for ideas to improve on my running blog (sgunfitrunners.blogspot.com). I noticed that she had a couple of Singapore Blog Awards banner on the site of the blog and that is how I came to know about the Blog Awards. I registered my blog on a whim and was incredulous that my blog actually got into the finals of the Topical Category of the Blog Awards. My blog even got a honorable mention by the guest of honor, Senior Minister of State, Dr Amy Khor.

Bizad Charity Run 2015

Run date: 10th Jan 2015

I have not participated in any paid runs, ever since my Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) injuries 2 years ago. I have some what recovered since than to be able to run 5-6km without much pain to my outer knee. I decided to try out a 5km Charity run organized by NUS Business School to test out the recovery of my knee.

I should have picked a easier run.

Why Marina Bay is a Great Place to Run in the Evening

Skyline of the Singapore's CBD

Running Date: 10th May 2015

The usual crew of SG Unfit Runners have been logging in runs on weekend early mornings when the crowd is thin and the breakfast is fragrant. Our lone night crew, Bad Bear, sprained his ankle during one of his in-line skating venture and after resting for 3 months, felt that he had to get back to a healthy lifestyle after being dormant (and getting fat) for so long. Looking for an inspirational run to kickstart his running habit again, he seek me for advice on where is a good place to run.

ONE Championship: Encounter with the Mixed Martial Arts Exponent!

The ONE Championship Belt
Recently, SGUnfit Runners was invited to the Media Launch of the Asia's biggeest Mix Martial Art (MMA) Competition  ONE Championship and we decided to invite our guest writer, Slacker along. Slacker is a certified Senior Instructor for IFMA (International Federation of Muay Thai Amateur) & AMAS (Amateur Muay Thai Association (Singapore)) and started his fighting journey with Muay Thai more than a decade ago!  He had also dabbled in various other arts like Capoeira, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu before settling for MMA. Bringing along for the ONE Championship launch seems like the perfect idea!

Bounce! AMPed Trampoline Park at Tanjong Katong

Kids heaven!
21 Dec 2014

I heard about the existence of trampoline parks from many of my friends with young kids on both sides of the causeway.

"It is simply the best place to bring kids to over a weekend!" gushed one of my lady friend over at Kuala Lumpur, "They just hop around for 1 hour and they will be absolutely too tired to do anything for the rest of the day!"

5 Tips to Take Beautiful Pictures while Running

I have never been a fan of running in a gym on a treadmill. Why will you want to stare at the same landscape (or a video drama) for a hour or so, when there are tons of beautiful places around the world to experience and enjoy while out on the streets?

One of the key differentiating factor between SG Unfit Runners and other running blogs is the sheer number of pictures taken along the running route, to help runners have a better idea the kind of landscape that they will encounter during the run. I have often been asked how I take such beautiful pictures of Singapore while running.

Rochor Canal - Great place for an evening romantic stroll

Rochor Canal. Behind ICA Building
Running Date: 08/03/2015

"Transformed Rochor canal a hit with resident" screams the headlines on straits times. It was practically an open invitation for SG Unfit Runners to swing by the canal to check it out. So on that very Sunday, we gathered at Lavender MRT station and easily found a dolled up Rochor canal, just behind the immigration & checkpoint authority building. We had a special guest who joined us today, Ms S J, the cute daughter of Fang Tai who insisted on tagging along.

The Battle With Graves' Disease Part VIII : Life 1 Year After Surgery

After I have removed my mutated thyroid gland, I feel as if a curse has been lifted from my life. I feel somewhat more positive and many of the activities I have been working on seems to have also broken out from their curse of stagnation.

Although I have to be on hormone replacement therapy for the rest of my life, I was pretty happy with the state of things now.

A few months back, I watched a couple of zombie apocalypse shows and I wondered how long will I survive in the case that I am unable to get hold of my hormone replacement drugs after the world has been overrun by zombies.

Geylang River - The Gateway into Marina Bay (Highly Recommended)

Geylang River from Dakota MRT
It has been exactly 3 years since I started SG Unfit Runners and we are running into one of the biggest challenge of our blog: Finding an area in the central area which we have not covered yet and is acceptable by all the Unfit Runners who live all over Singapore. We spend sometime huddling over Google Map, enlarging the map, looking out for pathways or possible running routes which we can share with our readers. Working from the Marina Bay area, we spied a small walking track from Marina Bay East up along Geylang River. That route looks like a possible runner's dream with minimal traffic crossings. On top of that, one of the best food market in Singapore, Old Airport Road Market is along the way.
